Sponsor Spotlight: freelancentral

Since it launched in early 2006, Freelancentral.co.za has become THE place for companies to find good freelance talent – and the go-to platform for freelancers to promote their portfolios. With over 6,500 members, Freelancentral aims to bring freelancers and clients together, to the benefit of both.

The site was founded by Jo Duxbury, who, after returning to Cape Town after nearly a decade working in marketing agencies in London, found it difficult to get freelance work herself without an established network. During a freelance stint at an ad agency, Jo realised that nearly every week the creative director would be looking for a freelancer. Jo spotted an opportunity to create an online platform to bring both parties together, and Freelancentral was born.

Freelancentral’s most popular categories are design, writing and new media and most clients are from agencies looking to outsource overflow work, or from smaller businesses who don’t have creative talent in-house.

Why we are getting involved

While a tool like WordPress makes blogging and content management so much more accessible to a non-techie audience, client still look to sites like Freelancentral to find freelancers to help with initial site set-up, as well as theme customisation. We’re involved in WordCamp to help WordPress developers find clients and carry on doing the work they are passionate about.
