Sponsor Spotlight: The Forge Web Creations

the_forgeThe Forge Web Creations have been crafting beautiful and functional WordPress websites since 2000. We are very happy to have them on board for WordCamp Cape Town 2011 as Silver Sponsors. Special thanks to The Forge for the WordCamp CT 2011 website theme, with design by Sue Rutherford and development by Mark Bloomfield. It’s looking great!

Tell us a bit about your business. How do you use WordPress?

The Forge Web Creations was founded by visionary owner, Sue Rutherford, and has been successfully operating for over 11 years in the web industry. Our portfolio of work includes many custom WordPress websites, ranging from small, simple sites to large, sophisticated online applications. The Forge’s own website is powered by WordPress, as is that of our sister company, eFrog Digital Design, an online store for top quality premium WordPress themes.

Why WordPress?

Our team is made up of award winning bloggers, experienced designers and developers and social media and search engine optimization experts. In selecting a CMS that caters to all our needs, and those of our clients, WordPress was the obvious choice. The core software is light, robust, highly flexible and enjoys massive ongoing community support.

Why did you decide to get involved and sponsor WordCamp Cape Town 2011?

The Forge Web Creations’ main office is based Cape Town and as we are such huge WordPress fans, it made perfect sense for us to climb on board and get involved. We felt that designing the Cape Town WordCamp site was a great way for us to give something back to the wonderful WordPress community and show our continued support of WordPress in general.

What are your thoughts on the WordPress community as a whole? And the South African WP community?

The WordPress community as a whole is just fantastic – it’s large and active and continues to grow in strength every day – a great testament to the software it supports. Locally, the community is starting to take off nicely and thanks to events such as this, we can only anticipate more growth and support.

What are you most looking forward to at WordCamp Cape Town?

We’re most excited about meeting up with like-minded people in the industry and connecting with a bunch of folk who feel the same way about WordPress as we do. The talks will no doubt be interesting and we’re looking forward to learning loads but interacting with other undelegates will be priceless.

Who in the WordPress community inspires you? Who do you follow?

We were lucky enough to meet Matt Mullenweg a few years ago at the first WordCamp in Cape Town. His easy-going nature and humility is an inspiration for us and we like to think that we’re on a mission from Matt to deliver pure WordPress awesomeness!

What is the most exciting improvement to WordPress that you have noticed in the last year?

The introduction of custom post types – it’s a wonderful content-organising feature.

Where do you see WordPress 2 years from now?

It’s just about impossible to predict the future of a system that is evolving at such a rapid pace but with geo, social and mobile trends gaining such huge momentum recenly, we can probably look forward to more integration of these aspects in WordPress in the near future.

Is it much easier to create a website using wordpress? I have seen some amazing looking sites but they look pretty complicated to build.

  2. Hi Woody…

Sure. Amazing sites CAN look intimidating if you’re planning on coding them from scratch.

But what if you had a TEAM of top-class PHP coders, building a robust, extensible CMS/blogging/website platform for you? And what if you had thousands upon thousands of amazingly talented designers, making drop- dead gorgeous themes that you could apply to that platform, easily? And what if you had even more legions of hot developers creating special extensions that added ALL manner of functionality to your website? And you could do all of this without knowing or writing a line of code?

Is it easier to create a website using WordPress?
    You bet it is!
